St. Peter’s Approach to General Surgery

For our General Surgery care team, providing comprehensive, high quality care means offering a wide range of procedures from a highly-trained set of surgeons, including the only board-certified colorectal surgeon in Montana.

Whatever the procedure, our team makes sure you’re fully prepared by scheduling appointments prior to surgery to perform certain tests, provide preoperative information and allow you to ask any questions you may have. Minimally invasive techniques using laparoscopic instrumentation are performed when applicable.

Care Team

Alissa Abentroth, MD, FACS

Alissa Abentroth, MD, FACS earned her Medical Degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine.  She completed her surgical residency at St. Raphaels Hospital, which is affiliated with the University of Connecticut and Yale University.  Dr. Abentroth attended Carroll College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Zoology.

Emily Bubbers, MD

Emily Bubbers, MD earned her medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, The Chicago Medical School.  She completed her general surgery residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore., and a residency in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Southern California.

John Galt, MD

John Galt, MD earned his Medical Degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.  He completed his General Surgery residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.  Dr. Galt received his Bachelor of Science degree from Montana State University in Biomedical Science.

William Harper, MD

William Harper, MD is board certified with the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Harper earned a bachelor's degree from University of Notre Dame in Biochemistry and earned his medical degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Harper completed his general surgery residency at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisc. He completed a vascular surgery fellowship at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. Dr. Harper also completed a year as the Chief Surgical Resident at Jewish Hospital. He then completed a surgical fellowship at St. Louis University.

Dana Osborne, MD

Dana Osborne, MD earned her Medical Degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.  She completed her surgical residency at the University of South Florida and was an Immunology Research Fellow at the Moffit Cancer Center at the University of South Florida.

Referral Information

For most patients, it’s best to have your Family Medicine provider set up an appointment with a St. Peter’s Health surgeon; however, self-referrals are accepted. Please note that some insurance companies may require a referral. Please check your insurance requirements.
