St. Peter’s One of Three Hospitals in Montana to Earn “A” Grade for Patient Safety

Date: 11/06/17

St. Peter’s Health earned its fourth consecutive “A” grade for safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog organization. St. Peter’s is among just three hospitals in Montana, including the Billings Clinic in Billings and Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula to receive an “A” grade in the Fall 2017 Hospital Safety Grade report.

The “A” grade is a valuable safety indicator available to patients and reflects higher than average performance across key safety measures including errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

“The safety of patients and staff is our top priority, and I’m proud of our team for their diligence and commitment to maintaining a safe environment at St. Peter’s,” said Wade Johnson, CEO. “We are building on a proven track record of safe, quality care, with an even more focused approach to become a higher performing organization as we move forward.”

Nationally, St. Peter’s is one of 832 hospitals of the 2,632 graded to earn an “A” safety grade. Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are compiled using 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by using national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid performance (CMS), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Diseases Control (CDC) and more.
