St. Peter’s Health has been awarded an “A” grade in the spring 2018 Hospital Safety Grade report recently released by The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog organization. The “A” grade is a valuable indicator available to patients looking for a safe place to receive care. This is the fifth consecutive “A” grade for St. Peter’s Health, one of two hospitals in Montana to receive an “A” grade in spring 2018. Providence St. Patrick’s in Missoula, Mont. also received an “A” grade on the latest report.
St. Peter’s Health earned this award due to low rates of hospital-acquired and surgical infections and exemplary communication between patients, physicians, nurses and their team. “I am proud of our team. It takes every team member prioritizing safety every day to achieve excellent patient safety outcomes,” said Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shelly Harkins. “We will continue to raise the bar for safety at St. Peter’s Health as we work to achieve our vision to be the gold standard of health care in Montana by 2025.”
Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are compiled using 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by using national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid performance (CMS), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Diseases Control (CDC) and more.
