Date: 10/03/12

Mothers and their daughters are invited to learn more together about breast health, at “Taking Care of Your Girls,” a free presentation co-sponsored by Komen Montana and St. Peter’s Hospital, Tuesday, October 16, from 6 – 7 p.m.  Pediatrician Venus Villalva, M.D. and surgeon Alissa Abentroth, M.D., will speak on the importance of teaching teen age girls about breast health and offer suggestions on how to open the lines of communication when discussing physical health. The presentation will include topics ranging from how to choose the first bra to risk factors for developing breast cancer and how to properly and comfortably conduct self breast exams.

The presentation is based on the book “Taking Care of Your Girls,” written by oncologist and breast health specialist Marissa Weiss, M.D.  Weiss and her 18-year-old daughter surveyed 3,000 mothers and their daughters to produce the informative book on breast health for girls and adolescents. Each teen will receive a copy of the book.  Other door prizes will be given away, as well as prizes awarded for the most outrageous pink outfit.  Light refreshments will be served.
