St. Peter's and Montana Nurses Association Reach Agreement on Nurse Contract

Date: 09/01/17

St. Peter’s Hospital and the Montana Nurses Association (MNA) today announced the organizations have reached an agreement on a new contract for the Registered Nurses employed at St. Peter’s Hospital. The contract was ratified by MNA membership Monday evening with an overwhelming majority vote.

“We’re pleased to be able to share this good news, and we consider it a vital step toward building a culture of collaboration and transparency at St. Peter’s,” said Wade Johnson, CEO. “I believe it’s important to provide fair market compensation for our nurses and all our employees, so our biggest challenge was balancing the requests of our nurses with our desire to maintain equity across the entire organization.”

Both organizations acknowledged there have been significant challenges in the past that led to a lengthier negotiation and, eventually, a mediation process. Moving forward with the new hospital leadership engaged, there is a collective commitment to build on this spirit of collaboration, and at this time both organizations are satisfied with the results of the negotiation.

“The nurses are committed to maintaining the highest quality patient care. Our agreement honors their expertise in decision-making and makes considerable improvements in competitive wages and security while at work. We know there will be challenges ahead but we’re increasingly hopeful about the direction of St. Peter’s Hospital and the future of healthcare in the Helena community,” said Vicky Byrd, Executive Director of the Montana Nurses Association.
