Date: 10/12/12

People living with diabetes and those affected by the disease are invited to attend St. Peter’s annual Diabetes Dialogue, a free community health and wellness event, on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Peter’s Hospital.

This year, a panel of physicians, educators and patients living with diabetes will make a presentation at 6 p.m. The panel includes Family Physician Jessica Bailey, M.D.; Ophthalmologist Thomas Berbos, M.D.; Nephrologist Robert LaClair, M.D.; Diabetes Educator Sue Larson, R.D.; and people diagnosed with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions from the experts.

There will be a health and wellness fair from 4:30 to 6 p.m., offering A1c blood tests for $25, cash or check only, no insurance accepted. No fasting is required for the A1c test. Various educational booths from St. Peter’s and the community will have free diabetes educational information and healthy refreshments will be offered.

Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death and in the United States; however, research shows that when managed properly, serious health complications from diabetes can be prevented or delayed.
