Family Nurse Practitioner Leslie Wilson of St. Peter’s Medical Group-North will focus on frequently asked questions and problems associated with menopause.

Wilson’s presentation will include information on the nature of menopause, its causes, and what signs and symptoms to look for in detecting its first stages. The workshop will also address managing menopause symptoms, health risks, hormone replacement therapy, staying healthy and staying positive during this change in life.

St. Peter’s Hospital regularly offers a six-session tobacco cessation course, Quit for Life. The class runs: April 29, May 1, May 6, May 8, and May 15.  For Life gives tobacco users the tools and support and help they need to stay focused on their personal reasons for quitting.  The class includes the latest improved skills for stress management, weight control, assertive communication and exercise to help participants succeed. During Quit for Life, the instructor teaches a step-by-step method for changing behavior to stop using all forms of tobacco.

Walk with Ease, an Arthritis Foundation exercise class for people with arthritis and related diseases, is being offered at St. Peter’s Hospital. The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 – 2 p.m. in the Hospital’s Education Center. 

The Walk with Ease program is designed for those who want to increase physical activity and gain the benefits of exercise.  Most people who can be on their feet for 10 minutes without increased pain will be able to participate successfully.  The sessions increase in length as the group improves its fitness level. 


The class is being taught by a Community Education Instructor who is certified through the Arthritis Foundation’s training program.  Walk with Ease is designed for all ability levels....

This 10-month nutritional and physical activity course focuses on the prevention of diabetes and heart disease through lifestyle change.  Inch by Inch is offered on various weekdays over the noon hour and in the evening through 3 different sessions:

  1. Mondays at 5:30 p.m. (starting 8/18)
  2. Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. (starting 8/19)
  3. Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. (starting 8/20)

To be eligible, participants must have a referral from their physician and commit to keeping a daily log of food intake and physical activity (with a goal of spending 150 minutes per week engaged in moderate physical activity).  After the core program is completed...

A community base, recreational group exercise and education program designed specifically for people with arthritis and related diseases.  The program’s multiple components help reduce pain and stiffness, and help maintain or improve mobility, muscle strength and functional ability. Each class includes a variety of exercises that can be performed while sitting, standing or lying on the floor; endurance building routines; relationship exercises; and health education topics.  Individuals from basic to advanced capabilities will benefit from the program.

AFEP classes are conducted by trained and certified instructors in partnership with the local Arthritis Foundation chapter.  Classes are usually one hour in length and meet two to three times per week.  A class...
