Taught by a certified lactation consultant, this class includes the benefits of human breast milk, anatomy and physiology of lactation, elements which promote successful feedings, determining adequate intake and breast pumping and returning to work.  Both parents are asked to attend together or the new mom and her birthing coach/partner.

St. Peter’s Hospital regularly offers a six-session tobacco cessation course, Quit for Life. The class runs for six sessions: Tuesday, Nov. 27; Thursday, Nov. 29; Monday Dec. 3; Wednesday, Dec. 5; Tuesday Dec. 11; and Thursday Dec. 13. All sessions meet from 5:30-6:30pm at the hospital.

Instructed by a clinical nurse educator to teach new parents the basics of baby care including umbilical cord care, how to bathe a baby, steps of resuscitation, how to tell if baby is thriving, characteristics of infants and post-partum care of mom.

The public is invited to meet the finalists for the St. Peter's President & CEO position and provide their input to the Hospital Board.  Each candidate will make a brief presentation and the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions.

The Board is expected to select the new President & CEO at its regular meeting on November 27. Quick Leonard Kieffer (QLK) of Chicago, a leading healthcare executive search firm, was retained by St. Peter’s to assist with the search for the new president & CEO.  QLK obtained the Helena community’s input on the process at an earlier forum on August 6.

A 12 hour, 2 day instructional program for youth ages 11-13.  Topics include how to deal with medical emergencies, babysitting as a business, age appropriate entertainment, how to handle a choking child, responsibilities and safety.  Students must pass a written exam and demonstrate rescue breathing/choking on a mannequin.  Students must attend both days. 

Cost is $50/student and scholarships are available upon request.  Scholarship requests take 3-4 weeks to process so please allow time.

Enrollment is strictly limited and refunds or class re-schedules cannot be guaranteed for missed classes.

An interactive workshop for Mothers and Daughters, ages 11 and older, to attend together to learn about navigating the sometimes rocky road of adolescence.  Content includes puberty, emotional changes, peer relationships and pressure, hygiene and self-esteem.  Cost is $10 for mother and first daughter, $5/each for additional daughters.  Each daughter will receive a small gift.  Light refreshments provided.  Presented by Dr. Michelle Danielson.
