Family Nurse Practitioner Leslie Wilson of St. Peter’s Medical Group-North will focus on frequently asked questions and problems associated with menopause.

Wilson’s presentation will include information on the nature of menopause, its causes, and what signs and symptoms to look for in detecting its first stages. The workshop will also address managing menopause symptoms, health risks, hormone replacement therapy, staying healthy and staying positive during this change in life.

Four session series covers recognizing the signs and symptoms of labor, breathing and relaxations skills, pain management options, coach's role and involvement during labor and Caesarean deliveries.   A tour of the O.B. floor is included as well as procedures for hospital registration.  Class meets Thursdays in April (3, 10, 17, 24) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Cost includes new mom and her birthing partner.

This free event will feature information on summer activity programs that involve orchestra, dance, outdoor science, drumming, art, sports and fitness, pottery and theater; plus summer programs going on through local government agencies.  Information on educational opportunities for school age children will be provided from local organizations, plus an interactive demonstration from ExplorationWorks and Learning Rx.  The Helena Brewers Mascot will be in attendance along with dance performances from local groups and a drumming circle with Rhythms Drums. Refreshments provided by Van’s Thriftway, Great Harvest Bread Co. and more.

A 12 hour, 2 day instructional program for youth ages 11-13.  Topics include how to deal with medical emergencies, babysitting as a business, age appropriate entertainment, how to handle a choking child, responsibilities and safety.  Students must pass a written exam and demonstrate rescue breathing/choking on a mannequin.  Students must attend both days. 

Cost is $50/student and scholarships are available upon request.  Scholarship requests take 3-4 weeks to process so please allow time.

Enrollment is strictly limited and refunds or class re-schedules cannot be guaranteed for missed classes.

First Aid-   Includes basic first responder first aid techniques.  The course is divided into 3 parts.  Medical emergencies, such as bad allergic reactions, fainting, blood sugar emergencies, stroke, seizures and shock.  Injury emergencies, including bleeding you can see, wounds, bleeding you can't see, head, neck, spine injuries, broken bones and sprains, burns and electrocution.  Environmental emergencies, with bites and stings, snakebites, temperature related emergencies and poison.

St. Peter’s Hospital regularly offers a six-session tobacco cessation course, Quit for Life. The class runs: April 29, May 1, May 6, May 8, and May 15.  For Life gives tobacco users the tools and support and help they need to stay focused on their personal reasons for quitting.  The class includes the latest improved skills for stress management, weight control, assertive communication and exercise to help participants succeed. During Quit for Life, the instructor teaches a step-by-step method for changing behavior to stop using all forms of tobacco.
