All media must request permission from Public Relations & Marketing before conducting interviews or taking photographs or video of staff, patients or visitors at any St. Peter’s facility. This includes visits for live stand-ups and b-roll on the campus.

To protect patients' privacy, media will be escorted by hospital staff while on campus. A consent from, signed by the patient (or his/her legal representative) must be completed and signed before the interview, filming or photography takes place.

Obtaining Patient Condition Reports
Hospitals are responsible for protecting the privacy and confidentiality of patients' information.  The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) regulates privacy standards for health care information.  HIPAA regulations specify the purposes for which information may and may not be released with authorization from the patient.  In most cases. St. Peter's Hospital will release a condition report:  undetermined, good, fair, serious, critical or deceased.  Media queries must specifically identify the patient by name.

Patient Condition Definitions

 Undetermined
  • Patient is awaiting physician and/or assessment.
 Good
  • Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. 
  • Patient is conscious and comfortable. 
  • Indicators are excellent.
 Fair
  • Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. 
  • Patient is conscious but may be uncomfortable. 
  • Indicators are favorable.
 Serious
  • Vital signs may be unstable and are not within normal limits. 
  • Patient is acutely ill. 
  • Indicators are questionable.
 Critical
  • Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. 
  • Patient may be unconscious. 
  • Indicators are unfavorable.
