This nutritional and physical activity course focuses on the prevention of diabetes and heart disease through healthy lifestyle change. Inch by Inch is offered on various weekdays over the noon hour and in the evening through 3 different sessions:                                                                                                  

  1. Mondays 12:00 - 1:00 pm (starting 1/29)
  2. Tuesdays 12:00 - 1:00 pm starting 1/30)
  3. Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:30 pm (starting 1/31)

To be eligible, participants must have a referral from their physician and commit to keeping a daily log of food intake and physical activity (with a goal of spending 150 minutes per week engaged in moderate physical activity).  After the core program is completed there are monthly follow-ups for six months.  Participants must also meet certain medical eligibility criteria, such as being overweight, having elevated blood pressure, a history of gestational diabetes or lipid disorder, or a likelihood for developing Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Participants cannot have diabetes or be in active chemotherapy or dialysis treatment.

"Inch by Inch" is designed to empower individuals who want to take an active role in their own health care to make positive, healthy and long lasting lifestyle changes. The program offers nutrition counseling and physical activity coaching for adults and is evaluated by tracking weight lost in percent and pounds and increased number of minutes of activity.  Cholesterol and blood glucose labs are tested free of charge after 16 weeks and at the end of the program.

Fee:

  • $75 ($50 returned if the course is completed)
  • FREE for qualifying medicaid participants
