Panel presentations, wellness screenings and demonstrations will all be part of Eating Well, a free St. Peter's Wellness event on diet and nutrition, scheduled for Tuesday evening, Jan. 8, at St. Peter’s.
The event begins with an early morning blood draw to test for blood sugar, cholesterol and triglyceride levels from 7 to 10. The first 100 people to register on-line will receive a free screening, others pay $15. For accurate results, fasting is required for 12 hours prior and no alcohol 24 hours prior. Please drink plenty of water prior to the blood draw. Results will be available with education by health professionals at the evening event.
The evening event begins at 5:30 with demonstrations and educational booths from St. Peter’s and community organizations and businesses. Those attending will receive a free nutrition booklet with recipes and healthy soup samples. In addition, free wellness screenings will be offered for body fat, blood pressure, hearing and peripheral artery disease. A blood draw for thyroid, bone density and PSA is $20 for each, and Vitamin D screening will be available for a fee of $60. Demonstrations include Chair Jazzercise, Zumba and Healthy Cooking.
From 7 - 8 p.m., a panel presentation will be held on how to maintain a healthy diet, balance nutrition and stay motivated. Presenters include registered dietitians, a nurse educator and licensed clinical professional counselor. It will include a question and answer period.
