Prostate Cancer Screening

The National Prostate Cancer Coalition reports prostate cancer diagnosis every 2 minutes and 45 seconds.  Approximately 220,000 new cases each year make it the most commonly diagnosed cancer in America among men.  Almost 29,000 American men lose their lives to prostate cancer each year, which equates to one death every twenty minutes.

Every man over the age of 50, younger if African American, or with a family history of the disease should be screened annually.

A Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) is a quick, simple blood test which measures the level of protein.  This screening is available through St. Peter’s Hospital’s Well Now! program.  If you are a male over the age of 50 or have two or more close relatives with Prostate cancer you may want to consider a PSA screening.  For more information please call St. Peter’s Wellness Center @ (406)-444-2128.
