Young Athlete Training & Prevention Programs

The Physical Therapy Program at St Peter’s is offering two new programs to assist young athletes to develop the muscle and balance needed to perform well and decrease the risk of injury. The target group is youth in grades 6-12.

The “Stay in the Game” programs include a program focused on the knee and a program focused on the shoulder. The programs offer per and post testing along with activities to improve strength, balance, and agility.

Sports where knee injuries are common include any sport with running such as volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Sports that involve the shoulder and overhead action include swimming, baseball, softball, volleyball some track events, roping and tennis.

The next program will be offered in June 2007 and will focus on shoulder strength. 
The program will be held 2 times a week for 4 weeks with pre and post testing.
