St. Peter's decision to build a state-of-the-art facility was made because of its continuing commitment to providing innovative and exceptional health care for Helena and its surrounding communities.

The Hospital, in September 2004 began a cost-effective expansion project to meet the current and future needs of Helena and the surrounding area due to the increasing population, aging demographics, and changing technology demands.

Under construction now is an efficient, multi-story wing which will consolidate inpatient services and offers a new patient wing with all private patient rooms for more privacy and flexibility, a consolidated radiology department offering convenient and more efficient operation and expansion for future technology.The First Floor will contain the new main entrance, lobby, admitting/registration, imaging and laboratory services and Gift Shop. The Second Floor will be the Surgical Unit. The Third Floor will house the Medical/Oncology Unit and the Fourth Floor, the Women and Children’s Center. There will be separate elevators for staff, patients, and the public.

Also under construction: the new emergency department (completed) and intensive care unit (completed), new radiology department, expanded Same Day Services and Cardiology areas, a public corridor offering convenient admitting and registration and easy access to amenities.
