Internal medicine is the medical specialty that focuses on comprehensive medical care for the adult patient.
St. Peter’s Medical Group employs Board–Certified Internists in its clinics and also at the Hospital as Hospitalists—physicians who only treat patients while they are hospitalized.
Internists generally undergo three years of additional training after graduation from medical school. During this training, internists acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to diagnose and manage both acute and chronic illnesses affecting adults. They also receive training in the areas of disease prevention and health maintenance.
