This is the American Heart Association CPR/AED course.  The course is for non-healthcare professionals.  The class includes CPR and choking for adults, children and infants.  Instruction with the  AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is included.  Participants will recieve a Heartsaver CPR/AED card at the end of the course.  This card is current for 2 years. 

Come to the Main Entrance of St Peters Hospital.  There will be a large sign that will guide you to the class room.

A 2 day, 12 hour instructional program for youth ages 11-13.  Topics include how to deal with medical emergencies, babysitting as a business, responsibilities, safety, what to do if a child chokes and age appropriate entertainment.  Students must pass a written exam and demonstrate rescue breathing/ choking on a mannequin in order to receive a certificate of completion. 

Enrollment is necessarily limited as directed by the National Safe Sitter Org.  Pre-registration and payment required.  No drop-ins allowed.   Materials will be provided only for those students registered and paid for in advance.

Pete’s Place, St. Peter’s Child Care Center, will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an open house at the center.  Teachers will be on hand to visit and refreshments will be available. 

All alumni and present children and their families and teachers are invited to join in celebrating a quarter century of enriching child care.

On Nov. 3, 1986, St. Peter’s Hospital opened Pete’s Place, Helena’s first employer-operated child care center.  Since that time, between 1,000 and 1,200 St. Peter’s and Helena families’ children have attended the center.  The celebration was postponed until the Spring to accommodate high school and college students schedules.

This FREE Well Nourished lecture was presented by Nurse Educator Karen Rowe, R.N.  

Karen discussed the increased prevalence of obesity and why regular activity is important. Information on the simple facts of weight control were included, with highlights on the benefits of exercising and burning more calories. Tips and facts about activity and learning how much is sufficient was also shared.

A 6 session course offered at St. Peter's Hospital to help stop using all forms of tobacco.  The instructor will help identify pitfalls of relapse and careful tips on how to avoid them.  Also included are the latest improved skills for stress management, weight control, assertive communication and exercise to help participants succeed.  During Quit for Life the instructor teaches a step-by-step method for changing behavior.  This group approach uses postive thinking, alternative behaviors, one-on-one help, rewards and group support to help participants to stop using all forms of tobacco.

Social Workers Janis Ahlstrom and Terry Hamper will present information geared toward those who care for someone with chronic or terminal illness, which can be a very demanding role.

Ahlstrom and Hamper will lead a discussion about support systems and resources; adapting to the role of caregiver; how to access the needs and feelings of a caregiver and why it is important for the caregiver to do self-care while caring for someone else.

This 10-month nutritional and physical activity course focuses on the prevention of diabetes and heart disease through lifestyle change.  Inch by Inch is offered on various weekdays over the noon hour and in the evening through 3 different sessions:

  1. January 16, 2012 through October 15, 2012
  2. January 17, 2012 through October 16, 2012
  3. January 18, 2012 through October 17, 2012

To be eligible, participants must have a referral from their physician and commit to keeping a daily log of food intake and physical activity (with a goal of spending 150 minutes per week engaged in moderate physical activity).  After the core program is completed there are monthly follow-ups for six months.  Participants must also meet certain medical eligibility...
